Trekking the Karstic Wonders of Mali me Gropa
Explore the unique geological landscapes of Mali me Gropa, a prominent mountain just behind Mount Dajti in Tirana’s hinterland. Known for its karstic pits, scenic peaks, and pristine nature, Mali me Gropa offers a memorable trekking adventure.
From waterfalls to meadows and pine forests, this trip is ideal for hikers, nature lovers, and outdoor enthusiasts looking for an active day in Albania’s stunning countryside.
🚐 Morning Departure – Journey to Shëngjergji
Our guide will meet you in central Tirana at 8:00 AM and drive to the village of Shëngjergji. Our first stop will be the recently discovered Shëngjergji Waterfalls, a 20–25 meter cascade on the Erzeni River, offering perfect photo opportunities and a refreshing start to the day.
🥾 Hiking Mali me Gropa
From Shëngjergji, the hike begins at an altitude of 1100–1200 meters, taking us up to one of Mali me Gropa’s highest peaks at 1800 meters. The mountain is famous for its karstic pits filled with water, creating the illusion of hundreds of natural Jacuzzis throughout the year. Trekking through this unique terrain offers both adventure and awe-inspiring views.
🔥 Cajëret of Selita Meadow & Barbecue
After exploring the mountain for about two hours, we continue to the Cajëret of Selita meadow. Named after the wild tea grown in the area, the meadow is ideal for a relaxing barbecue. Wander through the nearby pine forest or observe the diverse birdlife, including wild doves, skylarks, woodpeckers, and thrushes. Seasonal flowers add a touch of color to this serene setting.
